September 10th has been proclaimed John Andrew Hope Day in the Town of Perth.
On September 10th 2026 we were honoured to be part of the Ontario Heritage Trust plaque unveiling recognizing John Andrew Hope’s significant contributions to our community and hospital.
Hope served in the First World War and was wounded twice before returning home and dedicating himself to public service. Among his lasting contributions was his founding role in establishing the Great War Memorial Hospital.
“This plaque honours the vision, dedication and community spirit that established the Great War Memorial site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital. John Andrew Hope’s commitment to bringing health care closer to home laid a lasting foundation for future generations. For our Foundation, honouring his legacy means continuing that same spirit of community support — keeping our hospital strong, accessible and here for the people we serve.”— Margot Hallam, CEO, Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation
