MRI Campaign
Because theDetailsMatter
The MRI at the Smiths Falls site of the Perth and Smiths District Hospital is now operational. However, it has not been fully funded as the Ontario Government does NOT pay for equipment.
The Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation is in its third year of a three-year $6.1 million dollar campaign to fund this vital piece of diagnostic equipment. To date our generous community has shown their support with an amazing $4.1 million raised so far!
With $2 million remaining to be raised, the Foundation invites individuals, businesses, and community organizations to help bring the MRI Campaign to successful completion.
What is an MRI?
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a specialized imaging test that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed 3D images of organs and structures inside your body. Healthcare providers use MRI to evaluate, diagnose and monitor several different medical conditions not visualized well with other imaging tests.
Your Support Brought MRI Technology to Our Community. Now, Help Us Keep It Going.
Since the arrival of the MRI in November 2023, more than 4,000 patients have benefited from receiving scans at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.
This has reduced the need for patients to travel to larger centres and expedites the delivery of vital diagnostic information.
This life-saving service exists because of people like you. But to keep it running and to expand its services we need your continued support.
Keeping Care Close to Home
Increased Access to Vital Diagnostic Services
Having the MRI at Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital has increased access to vital diagnostic services to support care close to home for thousands of patients.
As of October 16th, 2025, MRI operating hours have doubled from 8 to 16 hours per day (Monday-Friday) in response to increasing community demand.
Breast MRI Now Available at PSFDH: A Clearer Picture
In February 2025, we expanded our MRI services to include breast imaging, a critical step forward in offering more comprehensive care, closer to home. This advanced tool helps patients who need further evaluation after a mammogram or ultrasound get the answers they need, faster and with greater precision.
Breast MRI plays a key role in:
- Detecting and distinguishing between benign and malignant tumors
- Investigating breast abnormalities
- Diagnosing complications related to breast implants
It’s especially helpful for patients with small or hard-to-detect lesions, those who want to avoid radiation exposure, or those needing detailed assessment of implants.
With every scan, we’re improving access to high-quality care and strengthening healthcare for everyone in our region.
With your continued support, we can keep moving forward.
The MRI You Helped Bring to Life Is Changing Lives Every Day
Since November 2023, the MRI at Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital has been a game-changer for our community, already imaging more than 3,500 patients and making a life-saving difference through earlier detection and diagnosis.
This incredible milestone was made possible by your generosity.
And the impact keeps growing.
Will you help us magnify patient care?
You may have just made a generous gift, or this may be a period of financial hardship for you and your family right now. Support for PSFDH is more than just giving a gift, it’s showing how much you value and appreciate their actions for our community. Please give when you can, share our information with a friend, like and share our social media pages, and join our mailing list for the latest news!
